When did you start writing erotica?

I started writing erotica when I was 19, only a few short stories that I generally kept for myself. I then started writing on an old forum called Orgasm Denial Forum, generally writing taboo erotica with orgasm denial themes. I only did this as a hobby, writing a few hundred words every few days, but I enjoyed it. I felt that (at the time) there wasn’t much content online for edging, denial, cockteasing etc, and a lot of the stories available focused heavily on cbt, humiliation and hard femdom which was something (at the time) I wasn’t interested in, so I decided to create it for myself.

I published a story on Amazon self publishing back then, and it had a few reads but my writing was very rough, and I tended to only catering to myself when writing. I started working in education shortly after this, and found I didn’t have time to write anymore, or that when I had time I had no passion for it.

Last year I ran a create writing competition region wide in the UK for work. As I read the submitted works it inspired me to start writing some shorter fantasy stories, heavily anime themed. However, I just found I wasn’t enjoying writing. I just didn’t have the passion for writing fantasy, but remembered how much I used to enjoy writing erotica, and knowing my writing had improved vastly over the past 13 years I started writing again. The words flowed out of me and I loved every second of being behind the laptop, letting my fingers type out all the ideas I had locked in my head all these years. I wasn’t tunnel visioned with my own niches anymore like when I was younger and could let myself live vicariously through the characters I created. What I intended to be just a fun hobby ended up taking over virtually all my spare time, be it writing or thinking of new ideas for stories or scenes within them.

So a long winded answer, but I started at 22, but really started this year at 35.

What inspired you to start writing?

I touched on this in my previous answer, but there were a few stories that really inspired me. One of the stories is now lost to time on the archives of the internet, but it was on the old asstr website, on a page called Boys clubhouse (I think) about a young man who works in the grocery store called Todd Mathews who packs bags for an older woman. She offers to drive him home and spends the entire drive edging him relentlessly.

What was the first book you ever wrote?

This was back when I was 22, and it was a series called One Long Summer which I posted on the Orgasm Denial Forums, before moving it to Amazon. It holds a special place in my heart, but the Forum is now closed down and the majority of the story is lost.

What are your favourite stories to write?

My favourite stories to write are the more romantic femdom stories that revolve around younger men being edged and teased by older women.

Personally, writing a more intimate handjob scene with lots of dialogue is more engaging for me to write than a harsher, crueler scene in which I feel no connection between the characters. In one of my stories, ‘A very blue summer’, I wrote a handjob scene which was over 10,000 words long after being edited down, simply because it flowed so well for me with there being a romantic, gentle connection between the characters.

What is your favourite book that you have written?

For me it has to be Summer Highs. I wrote is as a love letter to the AVN games I used to play, and to this day it was my most challenging story to write due to having so many subplots between different characters.

Obviously it has edging, orgasm denial and chastity as all my stories do, but I was able to build up a little town filled with different fetishes and kinks. I loved it despite how difficult it was to write at times.

Who do you think are your biggest fans, your core readership? How would you describe them?

I feel like my readers are a lot like me. I tend to write 70% of my stories in a way that I would enjoy to read myself, and those are the ones that always sell the best. I have had a few people reach out to me about my stories and they have been so kind and complimentary.

What makes your heart race as a reader, and also a writer?

This is something I’ve always been focused on as a reader and a writer, and that is long, drawn out and detail erotic scenes which follow a slow build up. I hate reading something that goes straight to the sex, but at the same time if something has a long build up then the sex scene is over in a paragraph or two I feel deflated. I want the reader to be able to picture exactly what is happening in my sex scenes, to imagine they are in the story themselves and vicariously experience what is happening because that’s what I enjoy as a reader.

What is your best selling book, and do you know why it sells so well?

Currently this is ‘The New Housemate’. It has the same themes as much of my work, but was also the first time I wrote about sissification which branched me into a new market. It is also my second longest book at over 250 pages. I discovered my works that are over 150 pages sell much better than shorter works, but this is probably due to my style of writing. In 5,000 words I would only get through one sex scene unless I rush it, which is not what my readers are used to from my writing.

How do you keep your ideas and stories fresh?

This can be a little chaotic, as a lot of my ideas come to me when I’m writing a different story. I will have to pause, grab my notebook and start mind mapping ideas out before I forget them. I also enjoy walking, and lately have stopped taking headphones with me on my hikes. This enables me to think about different plots and scenes while walking and I write them down on my notebook in my backpack. Being in the middle of a forest and not seeing another person for a few hours really lets my brain go crazy with ideas.

Do you have a writing routine?

Yes and no. When I’m at work I write after work before I go into the gym, in an evening after dinner for a little while, and whenever I get chance during the day. My role at work gives me a lot of free time as I manage teachers more than teach now. However, when I’m off work (like now) I just write whenever I want as much as I can. Today for example, I wrote 10,000 words to a new story but yesterday I only wrote 1,000 as I wanted to enjoy the sunny weather (and using the Macbook outside in the sun is a pain).

What’s the secret to a strong title and great cover art?

Im terrible at this. If I think a cover will turn me on as a reader I use it, but my covers are something I need to work on. This is my inexperience in the writing industry.

Do you enjoy hearing from readers?

YES! I love feedback and chatting to readers. I’m always happy for readers to get in touch with me and chat. I set up a Twitter account specifically to interact with my readers.

How much of your work is based on personal experience versus fantasy?

Unfortunately, most of my work is fantasy based, as due to my work and leading a generally vanilla life I don’t get to explore my fetishes much. However, because of that it allows me to write without feeling burnt out and life these experiences through my characters.

What mistakes have you made in your career that others could avoid?

Trying to cover too many niches. I regret the time I wasted on books that didn’t sell because I thought I could branch out.

What’s the best thing about writing erotica for you?

The effect it has on my readers. If my character is blue balled and denied at the end of a chapter, I want the reader to be as well and this makes writing even more fun for me.

What advice would you offer a writer who wants to embark or a successful erotica career?

Do it. Even if you’re not an overnight success you’re still going to have fun writing, and when you get your first reader reach out to you it feels amazing. However, aways stick to what you know and understand. I don’t write maledom erotica because it doesn’t interest me and I have no experience in it. I would only disappoint the person reading my work if I tried. Also, if you are using Amazon set up A+ content, it makes your pages look more professional and the addition of extra artwork is more engaging for your readers.
