Ladies and gurlies, please welcome Hannah May…

When did you start writing erotica and what was your inspiration for it?

I’ve been writing erotica off and on since around 2017 under different pen names. The shorter format drew me in, as well as the ease of selling copies without the need for advertisements. My primary motivation has always been to write down my own strange fantasies and the thought of others taking part of them has always been, ehum, exciting to me.

How would you describe the niche and themes of your work?

I jump around a bit but always come back to transformations of different kinds, interwoven with transgenderism and humiliation. Often, the stories are centered around men becoming women in different (generally unrealistic) ways. The process of turning someone into someone else, not just their body but their very self, has always been something I love exploring.

What was the first book that you wrote?

It was a gay romance novella under a long dead pen name that sold one single copy. The title was long enough to cover the entire front and I made pretty much every mistake you can make. The great thing with writing erotica though, is that you can just write another and learn from past releases.

What is your favorite book or series that you have written?

I’m pretty proud of the Reluctant Femboys series, a relatively recent couple of novellas.

What are you favourite three words to use?

Cock. Wetness, Climax.

Who do you think are your biggest fans, your core readership? How would you describe them?

Honestly, I’m not sure. My newsletter started just a few months ago, so I haven’t had much fan interaction yet. They’re primarily men, I’d say. Perhaps men secretly wishing they could become women?

What makes your heart race as a reader, and also a writer?

A slow descent into pleasure induced madness.

What is your best selling book, and do you know why it sells so well?

The Complete Works of Hannah May has vastly outsold anything else. It’s a bundle of everything I wrote up to a point where I took a longer break, so there are a whole lot of stories in there which translates into value for the customer.

How do you keep your ideas and stories fresh?

I honestly write down my own fantasies. Feminizing men and turning them into women is something that gets me going. Once I’ve explored a fantasy and wrote the book, I move on to something else. The difficult thing is making sure to iron the fantasy a bit so it fits within the bounds of Amazon’s rules.

Do you have a writing routine? Any rituals?

A lot of my writing is done through dictation so I take long walks and just speak my filthy fantasies into existence.

What’s the secret to a strong title and great cover art?

They should tell the reader what the story is about. Slap a hot woman or a pair of breasts in lingerie on there and tell people exactly what they’re going to get if they purchase the book. It’s all marketing.

Do you enjoy hearing from readers?

I do!

What has been the high point of your career?

I haven’t even begun to peak!

Which authors inspire you?

There are a lot of great authors in this space. Nikki is obviously big, but Keary Hayes, Jane Futa, Lilly Lustwood are all amazing queens as well.

How much of your work is based on personal experience versus fantasy?

Haha. There are few of my stories that are realistic enough to actually happen in reality. They’re all my dirty fantasies.

Do your friends and family know that you are an erotic author? If so, how did they react when they found out?

Some do, most don’t. They don’t know my pen name. People have generally been positive!

What mistakes have you made in your career that others could avoid?

Make sure to follow the Amazon guidelines or you might find yourself with blocked books. Nothing too saucy in the blurb, on the cover, or in the look-inside.

What have been your personal triumphs?

Paying down all my debt with money made from writing erotica was a very exhilarating moment.

What’s the best thing about writing erotica for you?

I love the writing itself. People reading the books and getting turned on is great!

What advice would you offer a writer who wants to embark or a successful erotica career?
