When did you start writing erotic books, and what was your inspiration for it?
I started writing fantasy stories when I was eleven or twelve. Not long after that, I hit puberty and started writing out my first sexual fantasies. I was especially fascinated by bondage and different types of power exchange. Pretty soon, I realized I wanted to write about whole societies where men are subjugated and owned.
What was the first book that you wrote?
When Women Rule is my first published novel. I went hard on that one and focused on a mysterious phenomenon where men simply lose the ability to resist commands given by women.
How would you describe the niche and themes of your work?
I absolutely love gynarchy fiction! For me, there’s nothing more intense than thinking about what a female-dominated society would look like. I love exploring worlds and societies where women have total power and the boys are stuck as second-class citizens or slaves.
What are your favourite stories to write?
I love stories with a twist in terms of the power dynamics. At their core, so many of my stories are about men who need to learn their place. They lose their power, their influence and independence. These are usually the men who start out on top and learn to love their new place on their knees.
What are three of your favourtite words to write?
They’re cliched, and I try to avoid using them too much, but my favorites are probably “cascade,” “vibrate,” and “ecstacy”.
What is your favorite book or series that you have written?
My favorite series (written by me) is definitely American Matriarchy. I loved exploring a scenario where female domination could take place on a social level. What would a city ruled by women look like? How could it plausibly take place in the real world? With this story, I wanted to write something more realistic, so this society wouldn’t be dependent on magic or supernatural elements.
Who do you think are your biggest fans, your core readership? How would you describe them?
Judging by the emails I’ve gotten from readers, it’s definitely a mix of women and men. They’re an amazing group who love to think about how different kinds of relationships can work. I love hearing all about their ideas and fantasies!
What makes your heart race as a reader, and also a writer?
Fear. And power. Fear is one of my favorite aphrodisiacs. I love writing about humiliated men who lose status in some way; more than that, I want them to be scared. I want them to think about what they’re losing as the women around them take control. These boys should get nervous when they start to understand that they’re never, ever going to win.
How do you keep your ideas and stories fresh?
Ideas have never been a challenge for me. There are so many fun approaches to domination and power play out in the world. I want to explore every way a woman can control a man.
Do you have a writing routine?
I’m a morning person, so I usually wake up and start writing. At work, I usually sneak away a bit to edit and revise. (I’m a bad, bad employee!)
Do you enjoy hearing from readers?
I love hearing from my readers! Whether they’re interested in sharing ideas, offering feedback, or requesting commissions, there’s nothing I love more than discussing my stories and fantasies. Everything I write is genuine; these are my favorite scenarios, so I’m always open to new conversation!
Do your friends and family know that you are an erotic author? If so, how did they react when they found out?
One or two of my friends know that I write erotica. They don’t really understand what I do, why I love it, or why it’s important. Then again, I don’t think most women really think about how much power they can have in society or on an individual level. Men like to bluster, but I think many of them are more vulnerable than they want to believe or accept.
What’s the best thing about writing erotica for you?
Writing is an incredible escape into alternate worlds and realities. I love thinking about characters, the games they’d play, and the challenges they’d face. Getting to explore domination and control is one of the best jobs I can imagine.
What advice would you offer a writer who wants to embark or a successful erotica career?
Do the work. I’ve met a lot of people who tell me they want to write, and I think that’s amazing. That said, they don’t want to do the work. It takes a lot of drive to wake up and sit down at a keyboard to write out a few hundred or thousand words every day. It’s very doable, but it takes a lot of time and energy. If you can find the right angle and niche, it can be a wonderfully rewarding experience, but you still need that work ethic…because it is work.
