A tombstone with the Instagram logo stands in a misty, blue-lit graveyard surrounded by leafless trees and old stone markers.

Instagram Is Dead, At Least For Me

Why I Left Instagram

After getting banned at 41k users, I setup a new account, from a new phone with new number, new name, and still, within minutes, got taken down again.

I am exhausted attempting to merely exist on a platform that actively hates anyone who does not fit their narrow definition of nuerotypical and heteronormative values. So for me it’s time to move on. Where? I am not sure yet.

Twitter remains a horrible place. My Facebook is still online and you can find me HERE. Please do join up and follow if you can. My TikTok is still going and you can follow HERE. I have also embedded the feed below.

I am planning to continue everything else, but PLEASE do subscribe to my email list as it’s the ONLY platform that can’t be shut down and I can stay in touch.

You can do that at the foot of this page.

The whole experience has been heartbreaking as I felt very connected to the community, conversations and fun we had as a free and openly encouraging online group.

The community is still here. Read their stories in the 2025 Survey and read about the 42k ban.

  1. Hi Jenny, I feel deeply for you and unfortunately I don’t know of a way out either—but Facebook would not be an alternative for me right now.
I wish I could offer you more support, because your stories have deeply moved and inspired me.
I hope that we as a community can find a quick and, above all, lasting solution together.
All the best to you hugs and kisses yours Michelle Sometimes

    1. Thank you Michelle. I have decided overnight to give it one more shot. I have a plan, it might work, it might not. We will see. What has really got me down is how connected I felt, how I knew what I was doing was helping people, and how harmless it was. And yet, the terrified tech companies who would not risk losing the right wing support they need, just hid behind community standards.

  2. Dearest Jenny,
The World is extremely unkind to free expression. But I have found SLUSHE.COM to be very welcoming. Please give it a peek!

    hugs, Samantha

    1. Thank you so much, I needed to hear that. The whole experience has been upsetting as it does trigger a whole conversation, an open wound, about my value as a human who chose to express themselves. It’s astonishing to me how deeply conservative the platforms have become and it feels like a betrayal of the promise of the interenet. I guess its the impact of capitalism. It always corrupts.

  3. Hi Jenny, I just discovered Pixelfed.org as useful alternative to IG. Maybe you will have a chance and the time and to give it a try. The registration is a bit awkward, but worked finally. Looks like IG from the very beginning, but runs as open source project.
Wish you all the best, hugs, Michelle

    1. Hi Michelle, yes I found it myself a few days ago. I tried to sign up to the Adult one, but got no response. I have already signed up to the main one but not posted yet. Thanks for thinking of me and I think I will give it a go tomorrow. There is a 15mb limit on video uploads, which is a bit small, but I understand as its basically funded with love. I will be sharing what I discover in due course.

  4. Have you tried deviantart.com? Its a treasure trove for your kind of content.
    Cheers!

PS: In the event of a genderswap infection one way to prove its you to loved ones & close friends is to share memories that only you and they know… this also comes in handy to call a deepfake AI scammer’s bluff!

  5. Thanks TFW, deviantart.com is amazing. I just mourn the community aspect that I lost with Instagram and the hundreds, indeed thousands who seemed to really get something significant from my posts. It was a wonderful thing shut down out of bigotry. Its sad to see how far we have come, then to slide backward in time. Thank you for your thoughts, it means a great deal to me.
