I just got a message from an author friend, Julia G Slater, that her work, mine and other erotic authors in our community have had their work uploaded to an illegal site. What to do?

I decided to go to ChatGPT and ask it for a legal sounding letter that would scare the owners of the site and get them to take down out stories. I won’t mention the site, I don’t want to give them ANY oxygen, but the stories have been taken down.

You can see why. There’s very little upside to keeping the stories on the site, and LOTS of potential downside.

Here’s the prompt I used… (site name redacted)

Users on the website XXXX SITE NAME REDACTED XXXX have posted my stories breaching copyright. Please write a legal letter to the owners of XXXX SITE NAME REDACTED XXXX demanding the stories be removed by the author Jenny Raven.

And ChatGPT returned this little gem…

Below is a formal DMCA-style legal notice you can use to demand removal of your copyrighted stories. It is written in a firm, professional tone suitable for website owners or hosting providers.

I’ve assumed:

• The content was posted without authorization
